By last fall, I had put on 17 lbs. of excess weight. This weight was a product of depression, becoming sedentary, and being stressed. Now add to that me having little knowledge of how to control my weight, and I was a balloon waiting to blow up.
I had gained and lost weight time and time again, but had not discovered the secret to maintaining my ideal weight (within 5 lbs.). Then, one of my very close friends recommended the app “myfitnesspal” and I began using it.
This was a life-changer.
At first, it seemed like I wasn’t losing a thing, but then, out of nowhere, I had lost 5 lbs! Whoo hoo! I had started doing cardio several times a week and eating better, controlling my caloric intake, and it finally paid off…I was losing weight! I began to feel the endorphins so my mood and general outlook on life improved. I felt more confident, more powerful and in control over my own life and my future. And because I felt empowered, I felt empowered to help others.
So, let me explain about this app. I was never one to count calories…and I still am not. The app does it for me. It tells me, according to my goals, the max calories I should consume in a day. Then, it tells me not only the calories each food/drink item has, it tells me the amount of sodium, potassium, carbs (including sugar and fiber), protein, and fat (even trans fat) in each food/drink item.
It also gives me an idea of how many calories I burn when I workout/train. I can clean my house, do aerobics, dance, do circuit training, get on the elliptical, ride the stationary bike, or whatever, and it let’s me know about how many calories I have burned. Then, at the end of the day, once I complete my log for the day, it tells me how much I would weight in 5 weeks if everyday was like that day.
It’s been a little over 8 months since I made the decision to get fit and began using
myfitnesspal. I have used it everyday since. Sometimes I workout, sometimes I don’t. There are days I eat healthy, and some days I don’t. But the important thing is that I AM healthier, I AM more fit, and I am happier since I made the decision to embark on this fitness journey to heal my mind, body, and spirit…and it’s been a long time since I’ve looked or felt this good. Why not join me?
