Okay, most of us nowadays have a desire to lose at least 10 pounds, including me. According to Dr. Oz, if most of us who have a little (or a lot) extra fat to lose, lose just 15 pounds, it could decrease our chance of developing cardiovascular disease by 30%! So, let’s focus on that first 15, or for some of us, that NEXT 15 pounds.
Here are four easy tips to implement, in addition to your current weight loss plan:
1. S= Select and Savor. Make a conscious decision about your food selections. Plan ahead so that when you are hungry, you already have a healthy choice readily available, instead of stopping at the nearest Mickey D’s. So, for instance, today, you should already know what your meals and snacks will be for tomorrow.
Now, when it’s time to eat, make an effort to eat “lady-like” instead of wolfin’ it down like you’re a prison inmate scared that the person behind you may shank you for your grub. Instead, eat like the queen that you are; savor each morsel. Take time to give thanks. If you are finishing an entire moderately sized meal in under 10 minutes, sister, you aren’t savoring a thing!
2. E= Enliven Your Soul. Let’s not focus on weight loss every second of the day. Discover what brings you to life and excites you. For some women, it’s a new wardrobe, new lingerie, a photo shoot, a full body massage, a visit to the botanical gardens, etc. Whatever it is that enlivens your soul, engage in that so that you can enjoy yourself on this weight loss journey, give yourself something more to look forward to, and catch a glimpse into what life will feel like when you reach your weight loss goals. I’m personally enjoying rebuilding my wardrobe. Since becoming a mom umpteen years ago, I bought the vast majority of my clothes from necessity, and rarely bought anything else for YEARS. Lately, I’ve actually been buying really cute items and have been having a ball! I encourage you to find what enlivens your soul like that, and get to it!
3. X= eXtracurricular Activities. Everyone talks about “working out” and “exercising” and truth be told, I don’t like either! But, I do recognize the necessity of increasing your heart rate in order to ultimately become healthier and more fit. So, what I like to participate in are extracurricular activities, e.g., bowling, walking, brisk walking while browsing/shopping, wall climbing, cycling, kickboxing, pole dancing (yes, it’s fun exercise), etc. Zumba even seems like it would be fun, although I haven’t tried it yet. (And where IS that phone number of that Zumba instructor? I hope that sista calls me back.) So, do you get my point with the extracurricular activities? They are FUN! How fun is lying on the floor doing leg lifts, push ups, and crunches? And how long do you think you will be doing that, hmmmm? Exactly! I always start off with a great workout program, however, because it’s not fun, I don’t stick with it. Tell me let’s go bowling or dancing, then I’m all for that! Plan extracurricular activities into your week at least three times a week, and you will see and feel the difference.
4. Y= whY not start RIGHT now? A lot of people during the middle of the week say, “I’m going to start (my weight loss plan) on Sunday,” or “I’ll start next week.” Then the time comes and they forgot, or something comes up, or “life” happens. So, I say, why not start right now? At this very minute, DECIDE, that you are going to implement your weight loss plan. Get up and drink water right now. Find a great dancing cd or grab your ipod and dance with yourself for at least 20-30 minutes. Don’t eat anything after 6 or 7 pm. Plan and prepare what you are going to eat tomorrow, including your snacks. Lay out that cute outfit and accessories that you are going to wear tomorrow. Wash and set your hair tonight, if you need a “hairdo lift.” What are you “weighting” for? Let’s do it…now!
To your health and sexiness,
